Our story
How did it all start?
I'm Jaka and together with my team I designed the first Slovenian indoor garden LightGarden.
The idea came to me from a recurring problem: "Bought herbs never last more than a week in the kitchen". As an amateur chef and user of fresh herbs in cooking, especially in pizza baking, I was terribly annoyed by this, how can I ensure fresh herbs all year round? There are some solutions on the market, but you have to buy their cartridges and herbs as well as the garden. In short, you do not have a 'free hand'.
I have used my expertise in luminaires
I started thinking about how I, as a lighting expert myself, could use my knowledge to make something useful, practical and something that really works. After talking to friends several times, I realised that they had similar problems and they were completely intrigued by my idea. This motivated me to do some research.
I wanted to know how I can use the existing solutions on the market to give indoor plants the best possible growing conditions. Together with my team, who are also part of Jaka&I, a professional lighting company, we researched dedicated lighting for growing plants. They decided to combine professional and technical knowledge with the practical knowledge they had acquired about growing plants and vegetables in the home garden. So we came up with the idea of creating a mini-garden with a built-in LED system that mimics the full spectrum of light that natural light has and that plants need to grow.
A practical and sophisticated product
We have focused on creating a practical, efficient and sophisticated product that everyone can use all year round. We weighed up all the options, read through a lot of research on growing plants and set about creating a prototype product. We decided to combine wood and metal. The wood gives off a feeling of warmth, while the metal construction of the lamp gives off compactness and quality.
A wooden trough, made by a local carpenter, serves as the base. The metal bracket - the handle in which the LEDs are integrated - is hand-made and welded by our company. The metal part is adapted to the shape and size of the garden.
After half a year of testing, the first prototype garden has survived many trials and users. The final results were telling enough that we decided to bring the product to the market, giving you, who are now reading this story, the opportunity to try it out and enjoy your very own brand new indoor garden, called Lightgarden. If you want, you can name it your own name and we'll engrave whatever you want on it. Only you know what will end up in this cute little garden.
